Farm Story 2/ valentines

Have been playing this version for almost a month. Now there is an update, but, tried getting it. Keeps telling me to check my Internet connection and cant connect to the iTunes store. Not getting anywhere. Now I find out that iOS needs to be version 6 or higher to connect to iTunes... Mine is version 5.1.1 and its up to date....what can I do, short of buying anew IPad? I now am back playing Farm Story 2.....had to uninstall the other one. Now, I play and it crashes...never did this before. But love the game so I guess Ill just have to deal with it. Like I said before, it never crashed.
